이탈리아서 두번째 인간광우병 환자 확진

이 통신은 새로 확진된 인간광우병 환자가 올해 42세의 여성으로 병원에 입원 중이며 극히 위독한 상태라고 전했다.
여성환자는 지난달 밀라노 신경의학 병원에서 크로이츠펠트-야콥병 (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease CJD) 변종에 걸렸다는 진단을 받고 서부 토스카나주(州) 리보르노의 전문병원으로 옮겨졌으며 당시 이미 혼수상태에 있었다고 이 통신은 소개했다.
이 환자가 어떻게 인간광우병에 걸렸는지는 아직 정확히 밝혀지지 않고 있다.
작년 이탈리아 보건부는 여성환자의 병이 CJD 변종일 가능성이 높다고 발표한 바 있다.
앞서 2002년 이탈리아 시칠리아에서 첫 번째 인간광우병 환자가 발생한 바 있다.
유럽연합(EU)은 유럽에서 동물 광우병을 거의 박멸했다고 지난 16일 선언했다.

ROME (AP) — A woman in northern Italy has been reported as being infected with mad cow disease and has been hospitalized in serious condition.
It was only the second case of the human version of the brain-wasting illness, variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, ever reported in Italy. The first case was reported in 2002 in a woman in Sicily.
The Health Ministry said Wednesday the latest case had been diagnosed in October 2009.
Italian news reports said the 42-year-old woman was hospitalized in Livorno.
Officials said the case probably dates to the 1990s. Experts believe the human form of the illness is transmitted by eating meat from infected animals.
