Swine flu blamed for SA vaccination fall

Swine flu is being blamed for a drop in immunisation rates among four-year-olds in South Australia.

General Practice SA says more than 6,000 children in the State are not protected against diseases such as whooping cough, measles and mumps.

Bronwyn Myles from the Adelaide Northern Division says when swine flu was prevalent, parents became complacent about other vaccinations.

“These children are going to be susceptible to these diseases because this is a booster dose that they are getting for the measles, mumps, rubella and their booster dose for their diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough and polio vaccinations,” she said.
