*4월 19일… 렌더링 공장에서 10년 7개월령 젖소에 대한 광우병 검사를 위해 샘플 채취함.
* 해당 동물은 파행(lameness) 증상을 보여 도태시킴(culled) (설명 – 다리를 절고 주저앉는 다우너 증상을 보여 안락사시킴.)
* 캘리포니아 주립대학의 광우병 검사 : 4월 19일 ELISA 검사를 실시했는데 결과는 Doubtful (uncertain)으로 나옴.
* 미국 국립수의과학연구소(NVSL)의 광우병 검사 : 4월 21일 ELISA 검사를 실시했는데 결과는 Doubtful (uncertain)으로 나옴.
4월 23일 면역조직화학검사(IHC)를 실시했는데 광우병 양성으로 나옴.
4월 23일 웨스턴 블로팅 검사를 실시했는데 광우병 양성으로 나옴.
4월 26일 국제수역사무국(OIE)에 비전형 광우병(atypical BSE) 발생 사례 보고함.

| Epidemiological comments | As part of the United States targeted bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) surveillance system a case of BSE classified as atypical was identified in a dead dairy cow that was to be rendered. The dead animal’s carcass will be destroyed. • The cow was culled due to lameness. • The identified animal was never presented for slaughter for human consumption, did not enter food supply channels, and at no time presented any risk to human health. • An epidemiological investigation into the incident has been initiated. • Movement controls have been placed on the index premises. |
